Title: Housing Counselor (Bilingual Mandarin/English)
Supervised by: Building Blocks Manager

Location: Hybrid remote with at least 3 days in-office weekly, primarily in Boston and occasionally in Malden
About the organization: Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) invests in Asian American and low-income communities by creating and preserving affordable and vibrant neighborhoods in Chinatown and Greater Boston.
Position Overview:
ACDC seeks a Housing Counselor for the Building Blocks program, who will provide aspiring homebuyers - especially low-income families and the growing Asian communities in Greater Boston - with the skills, knowledge, and resources to search for, buy, and maintain a home. The Counselor will also assist in the administration and delivery of ACDC’s matched savings programs designed to help participants build up savings and increase their financial literacy. This position requires experience and comfort with direct client interaction, as well as creativity and strategic thinking to promote Building Blocks programs and develop community partnerships for outreach and referrals. The nature of the work will require some weekend hours. Training in housing counseling, financial literacy, and first-time homebuyer content will be provided.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate activities pertaining to ACDC’s housing counseling and homeownership education programs
- Acquire and maintain the HUD housing counselor certificate (training will be provided)
- Provide individual housing counseling services, including housing search support, basic financial analysis, referrals to real estate professionals, and assistance in completion of forms and documents
- Assist with organizing and delivering workshops, including first-time homebuyer workshops and financial literacy workshops
- Assist with building relationships with lenders, realtors, and other professionals in the real estate and homebuyer education field to develop referral resources
- Assist with creating and implementing strategies to increase counseling and class participation of low to moderate income clients with focus on Chinese immigrants
- Maintain accurate client records on a client management database and produce ongoing reports on program activity
- Maintain up-to-date information on local financing and affordable housing programs, products, and assistance programs
- Comply with the requirements of contracts, grant agreements, and CHAPA and federal HUD regulations
Qualifications:
- Bilingual speaking fluency in English and Mandarin required; additional Cantonese speaking fluency preferred
- Commitment to ACDC’s mission and the goals of Building Blocks
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience working with immigrant populations and people of diverse backgrounds
- Computer skills sufficient to create reports in a variety of programs, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database programs.
- Self-starter; independent and adaptable work style

Salary Range: $52,000-$57,000
Note: Starting salaries are ultimately determined by the candidate's relevant experience and education.

Work Environment
ACDC requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. The Boston office currently allows visitors and clients by appointment, but walk-ins could resume in the future. Masks are optional in the office. This position requires at least 3 days of work in-office per week until further notice, primarily in the Boston Chinatown office and occasionally the downtown Malden office.
