Job Summary:
The Bus Monitor assists the school bus driver in ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students to and from schools and special events. The monitor provides support to students with special needs, helps maintain discipline, and ensures students follow safety procedures while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the bus.
- Secure students with seat belts, harnesses, or wheelchair restraints as required.
- Monitor and manage student behavior to maintain a safe environment.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and school personnel.
- Assist the driver with bus cleanliness and safety.
- Attend to students with special needs.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as needed (i.e., seating charts, incident reports).
- Assist in emergency evacuations and drills.
- Report any safety concerns, behavioral incidents, or bus issues to the driver and/or supervisor.
- Uphold the company's safety and conduct standards at all times.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities, is a plus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, compassion, and reliability.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist in lifting and securing students as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs frequently.
- Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on school buses and at pickup/drop-off locations.
- May be exposed to various weather conditions and student behavior challenges.
