Hiring Department

The department of Psychology and Counseling in the School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences (ESWPS) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

This role is supported through collaboration between the department of Psychology and Counseling and the Institute of Human Development at University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Job Description

This part-time (.4 FTE/ average 16 hours per week) unranked academic position will provide training, supervision, and mentoring to MA-level trainees working in early childhood learning centers and providing mental health services. The position will work with community partners at early childhood learning centers to build the infrastructure in our community to improve mental health outcomes for families with young children.

Duties

  • Supervise Fellows (i.e., MA-level interns) at their early learning centers. The candidate will provide written feedback to early learning center staff and trainees on processes related to providing counseling services. The candidate will also assist with data collection efforts and writing annual reports to the funder.
  • Teach one 3-credit internship class each semester for the Fellows through the department of Psychology and Counseling
  • Conduct site visits and work with early learning center staff to ensure program fidelity
  • Collaborate with UMKC staff to evaluate and advise Fellows
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED TRAVEL: Travel is required for site visits.

NOTE: This position is externally funded and is renewed based on performance and continued funding.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or related degree
  • Licensed in MO and able to supervise trainees
  • 3 years of experience working in a clinical/counseling setting with children and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Licensed in MO with experience supervising trainees
  • 5+ years of experience working in a clinical/counseling setting with children and families
  • Demonstrated expertise in early childhood (birth to 5 years of age) mental health
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in university setting

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
