Medical Director – Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) | Washington, DC

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) is seeking a Medical Director to join our team in Washington, DC. This leadership role is pivotal to our mission of providing exceptional care for the community's behavioral health needs. As a full-time, employed position, the Medical Director will work Monday through Friday and oversee patient care within our inpatient program.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Leadership & Clinical Oversight

    Supervise physicians and clinical staff in an inpatient setting.
  • Administrative & Clinical Management

    Manage patient admissions, discharges, and ongoing care. Develop and refine clinical processes and programs.
  • Collaboration

    Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, nurses, counselors, social workers, and therapists to provide comprehensive care.
  • Quality Improvement

    Lead quality improvement initiatives, manage risk, and optimize service utilization.
  • Meetings & Reporting

    Actively participate in medical staff and executive team meetings, contribute to organizational strategic planning, and ensure alignment with the hospital's goals.


Qualifications:



  • Education

    MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Certification

    Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Licensure

    Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in Washington, DC.
  • Experience

    At least five years of experience in inpatient behavioral health care, including prior management or Medical Director experience.
  • Skills

    Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning abilities. Proven experience in fostering a collaborative, supportive culture within a medical setting.
  • Knowledge

    Familiarity with psychiatric operations, financial management, and decision-making in a healthcare context.


Compensation & Benefits:



  • Salary

    Competitive salary ranging from
    $350,000 to $400,000. (Overall comp range 450k-475k)
