Summary

Orlando VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Psychiatrist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.



Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training in Psychiatry approved by the VA
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam



Duties

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, follow-up visits, consultations, group therapy, medication management, and crisis intervention
  • Provide psychiatric care in an outpatient setting, assessing and designing treatment plans for veterans
  • Coordinate with team members, resolve care issues, and educate veterans and families
  • Ensure compliance with VA policies and regulations
  • Lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to improve mental health outcomes
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; various shifts may be required based on needs
