Team LLC – Job DescriptionPosition Title: Intensive In-Home Counselor (QMHP-C / QMHP-Trainee)
Location: Richmond, VA Office

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor or Program Director
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / PRN
Position Summary:
The Intensive In-Home Counselor provides structured, goal-directed therapeutic services to children and adolescents at risk of out-of-home placement due to serious emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. Services are provided in the youth’s home, school, and community environments. The IIH Counselor works closely with families to stabilize the home, prevent disruption, and build long-term resilience and coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide face-to-face therapeutic interventions to children and families several times per week, based on individual needs and service plans.
- Address crisis situations and develop, implement, and regularly review safety plans and behavioral support strategies.
- Collaborate with caregivers to improve parenting skills, family communication, routines, and environmental structure.
- Provide psychoeducation around mental health, emotional regulation, and interpersonal relationships.
- Support clients in achieving treatment goals through strength-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered practices.
- Coordinate with outside providers, including schools, social services, case managers, psychiatrists, and courts, to ensure holistic care.
- Complete and maintain Individual Service Plans (ISPs), assessments, daily progress notes, and quarterly reviews in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision and attend required trainings and staff meetings.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in all client and team interactions.
Qualifications:
- Must meet DBHDS qualifications as a QMHP-C or QMHP-Trainee (Qualified Mental Health Professional - Child)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related human services field
- Minimum one year of experience working with children/adolescents with emotional or behavioral disorders
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance (position includes field-based work)
- Strong documentation, clinical reasoning, and communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with families involved in child welfare, juvenile justice, or special education
- Familiarity with trauma-informed models and therapeutic modalities (CBT, DBT, solution-focused, etc.)
- Knowledge of Medicaid service delivery and electronic health records (EHR)
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily conducted in clients' homes, schools, and community settings
- May require flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends to meet family needs
- Requires travel within Richmond and surrounding localities
