Job Description:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the delivery of mental health care to a student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with all areas of the SHC, and be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.
Job Responsibilities:
85% - Provides direct patient care including assessments, diagnoses, and appropriate medication management for patients with mental health challenges. Orders appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribes medication, and makes counseling and coaching referrals as appropriate; documents care in the electronic health record, employing care protocols and proper coding; and provides consultation on complex or high risk cases. Collaborates with medical providers and therapists as needed.
5% - Offers indirect patient care providing referrals, medication refills, and recommendations to patients via non face to face interactions, including completing documentation to support accommodations as appropriate.
5% - Participates in unit meetings, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, mandatory LSU trainings and SHC yearly trainings, peer review and performance improvement studies.
5% - Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Medical Director, and direct supervisor. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including engaging in in-service opportunities for the division, and other special projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing with population focus of Psychiatric Mental Health from an accredited college or university.
- Active Louisiana APRN License: Advance Practice Registered Nurse License.
- Board Certification: Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by ANCC as approved by state.
- DEA and CDS License: Current Federal DEA license and current CDS license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience.
- Experience providing care in a college community with a wide age range in population; experience in college health setting; committed to a practice that supports a collaborative care model.
