Description

The Admissions Counselor is a full-time position that focuses on the recruitment of prospective students, the review of applications, and active participation in yield activities to ensure enrollment of a talented and diverse class. The Admissions Counselor engages with high schools and community colleges in an assigned area and manages the interactions and various forms of communication with students, parents, high school counselors and alumni in that region. On campus, the Admissions Counselor conducts information sessions, confers with admitted students/families and contributes to the success of visitation/recruitment programs. Collegial interaction with several College departments and external partners is on-going. Some evening and weekend work will be required so the Admissions Counselor must be committed to working flexible hours to meet office and team needs. Additional special projects may be assigned by the Director of Admissions as needed.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage a recruitment territory, including roughly 6-8 weeks of occasional travel and virtual engagement for recruitment.
  2. Create and implement recruitment strategies to achieve recruitment goals.
  3. Utilize data systems in the recruitment process (Jenzabar, Slate, etc.).
  4. Handle admissions office correspondence on a daily basis. (phone, text, email)
  5. Communicate with a wide spectrum of constituencies including but not limited to students, parents, guidance counselors, alumni, current students, and community-based organizations.
  6. Counsel prospective students and families in all aspects of the admissions process.
  7. Organize work to provide maximum time for follow-up by telephone, text and email, to secure a specified number of campus visits, applications, acceptances, deposits and matriculations with some projects requiring evening and weekend work hours.
  8. Conduct campus tours and presentations to prospective students, families, and special groups.
  9. Attend all recruitment events sponsored by the Admissions office throughout the year.
  10. Act as liaison with other campus offices to ensure excellent customer service to prospective students/families.
  11. Manage special interest group(s) to enhance the scope of recruitment to enroll and shape a diverse class.
  12. Be knowledgeable and able to counsel families about financial aid and Newberry’s system of “packaging” aid.
  13. Be proficient in his or her knowledge of Newberry College.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, required. A minimum of 3 months of experience in an Admissions Office or sales environment, preferred. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public. Knowledge of and experience with computer systems and software applications, preferred. Strong time management and perceptive interpersonal abilities. Operate effectively in both independent and team environments. Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written) in both individual and group settings. Knowledge of social media platforms, a plus. Desire to take initiative and be creative. A valid driver’s license, required.
