Description

Job Title: School Psychologist (Evaluations, Classroom Consultation/Support)

Location: Happiness House Canandaigua and CP Rochester sites

Pay Range: $55,300 - $69,200 per year

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time/school year position (37.5 hours per week). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. Evening work may be required as job duties demand. This position follows the school calendar with vacations coinciding with school breaks. Summer 6-week session is included in school year employment. Summary/Objective: The School Psychologist(s) working for either Happiness House and/or CP Rochester, will work collaboratively with the Director of Evaluations and the Children's Program Director(s) to perform duties as described below. The School Psychologist will work to build rapport with the Early Intervention and Preschool Staff so appropriate services are being provided by staff on site, as well as conduct developmental evaluations. In addition to performing the essential functions of the School Psychologist position, other training opportunities may arise due to the need for staff training.

Required Education and Experience

  • NYS Certification as School Psychologist
  • Three years' experience, preferably working with young children with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Experience in early childhood development and family intervention preferred
  • Knowledge of available community resources, including typical preschool programs.
  • Valid NYS driver's license
  • Essential Functions:

  • Imparts agency philosophy of 'Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential' to children, families, program staff, and community resources.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  • Provides consultations, in-service, and training to teachers, clinicians, and other staff members as needed.
  • Completes initial assessments, re-evaluations, and other evaluations/ assessments, including corresponding evaluation reports, in a timely manner as required by agency guidelines and New York State regulations, as needed in consultation with Director of Evaluations and Children's Program Director.
  • Ensure a home visit (or phone conference) for each child referred for an evaluation to share information with parents/guardians about the evaluation process and to obtain background information for the social histories.
  • Presents evaluation results to parents/guardian in a mindful and informative manner.
  • Provides support and consultation to parents as needed to address developmental milestones and behavioral strategies that may be applicable for the home environment.
  • Act as the Evaluation Team Representative and review evaluation results at IFSP and CPSE meeting.
  • Consults with the classroom teachers and staff in the development and implementation of classroom interventions and behavior plans.
  • Provides consultation and direct observation to all classrooms on a regular basis.
  • Meets on a regular scheduled basis with classroom staff, including general education and special education teachers, to discuss students, behavior documentation/plans, and overall IEP goals.
  • Designs behavior programs as needed for individual children.
  • Oversees implementation of behavior management programs and behavioral philosophy throughout programs.
  • Collaborates with agency specialists to support programming and educational needs of students and staff across agency sites.
  • Supervises student interns and volunteers when appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with Director of Evaluations and Children's Program Director(s) to discuss child, family, classroom, and department concerns, needs, and strengths.
  • Adheres to Agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  • Participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  • Participates in conference to meet the 90-minute annual Evaluation Training Requirement for Early Intervention, if applicable.
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Director of Evaluations, Children's Program Director(s), or his/her designee.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; bend, stoop; walk, run; use hands to carry; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds. The employee will be working with children with behavioral overreactions and possible unsafe behaviors and therefore must be able to handle these situations.

    Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies. Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, internal equity, and location.
