Job Summary

100% Onsite - Downtown Dallas, TX

Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor University Medical Center - Dallas is looking to hire a Genetic Counseling Administrative Assistant to join our growing genetics team, located in the heart of a beautiful cancer center. The Genetic Counseling Administrative Assistant at Baylor University Medical Center provides administrative support to genetic counselors to help serve families who may be at risk of having a hereditary cancer syndrome.

Essential Functions Of The Role

  • Provide support to genetic counselors at Baylor Scott & White.
  • Prepare patient charts for genetic counseling consultations.
  • Helps to coordinate patient appointments and handles other duties related to the clinical departments daily needs.
  • Mail patient summary letters and send records to referring providers.
  • Aid genetic counselors in the completion of test requisition forms and insurance authorizations. Assist in packaging samples for transportation to genetic testing laboratories.
  • Enter patient records into databases.
  • Create and edit pedigrees using Progeny software.
  • Provide genetic testing laboratories with requested documentation.
  • Distribute marketing materials to local physician offices.
  • May communicate with physicians, patients and healthcare staff to ensure relevant patient information is mutual with appropriate parties as required.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work carefully and is highly organized, with an attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Able to maintain a calm, helpful, and positive attitude.
  • General computer skills, including but not limited to using required software applications, risk models, data entry, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Interest in a career in Genetic Counseling strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
