JOB TITLE: Victim Crime Advocate

DEFINITION

The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive services to victims of crime with empathy, professionalism, and a strong desire to support individuals through difficult circumstances. The ideal candidate will demonstrate compassion, excellent listening and communication skills, and a genuine commitment to helping victims rebuild their lives. This role involves providing emotional support, guidance, and referrals to necessary resources. Physical demands of this position range from sedentary to light work.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Reports directly to the Circuit Clerk and Judiciary. This position does not supervise others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Coordinate with local shelters, the Division of Family Services, Legal Aid, crisis centers, and other public/private organizations to secure services for victims.

· Collaborate with other Victim Advocates to share updates and maintain current case information.

· Possess and apply knowledge of Missouri's Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.

· Manage grant requirements, including the Missouri Department of Public Safety (DPS) system.

· Complete annual CCR registration to maintain grant eligibility.

· Utilize the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System (MoVANS).

· Assist with filing protective orders, applications for victim’s compensation, prepare victims for court and provide court advocacy and accompaniment, refer and provide protection resources.

· Guide victims through documentation, ensuring accurate completion and proper submission.

· Notify victims of court proceedings and schedule meetings with the Prosecuting Attorney.

· Provide advocacy and support to both adult and child victims.

· Must be available after hours to work with officers and/or victims

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide transportation to victims when necessary.

Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and offer immediate assistance.

Fax documentation to relevant service providers or legal representatives.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

General office practices, procedures, and the use of standard office equipment.

Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and PDF software.

Missouri statutory victim rights and applicable court procedures.

Trauma-informed care practices.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with victims and service providers.

Perform basic math functions with accuracy.

Work independently and handle sensitive, high-stress situations professionally.

Maintain emotional composure and a non-judgmental attitude.

Adapt to fast-paced environments and manage multiple responsibilities.

Sit for prolonged periods (up to 5 hours), alternate between sitting and standing, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.

Understand and apply concepts related to trauma and victimization.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred: One to three years of experience in victim services, social work, criminal justice, or a related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Tasks are primarily sedentary but may involve occasional light physical activity, including transporting victims or carrying supplies. Frequent use of computers, phones, and other office equipment is expected.

Mental Demands:

Requires emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Must be able to process detailed information, make decisions under pressure, and handle interactions with traumatized individuals compassionately and professionally.

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based in a courthouse or administrative setting. Occasional offsite visits or transportation of victims may occur. May encounter emotionally charged or high-stress situations. Must maintain strict confidentiality and composure under pressure.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS

Must pass pre-employment substance screening and physical examination.

Subject to random drug testing per county policy.

Must pass a background check and E-Verify eligibility confirmation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38 per week
