As a Peer Support Specialist at Novum Health, your primary purpose is to provide guidance, empathy, and support to individuals receiving mental health services. Drawing from your own lived experience with mental health challenges, you will play a vital role in helping clients navigate their recovery journey, promoting self-advocacy, and fostering a sense of hope and resilience.
- Tasks (Including but not limited to)
- Engage with individuals receiving mental health services, offering empathetic and nonjudgmental support.
- Share personal experiences of recovery to inspire and connect with clients on a peertopeer level.
- Actively listen to clients, encouraging them to express their feelings, concerns, and aspirations.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop individualized recovery plans and goals.
- Assist clients in identifying and accessing appropriate community resources and support networks.
- Facilitate peer support groups and recoveryfocused activities, promoting a sense of community and empowerment.
- Provide education on mental health topics, selfcare strategies, and coping skills.
- Advocate for clients' rights and needs, helping them navigate systems and overcome barriers.
- Document client interactions and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training to enhance peer support skills.
- Ensuring members/patients are transported to appointments or other locations as necessary, using Employee’s personal vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed.)

- Qualifications
Experience and Education
- Lived experience with mental health challenges and a minimum of 2 years in a peer support role.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field is a plus).
- Skills
- Strong understanding of the recovery process and the ability to provide hope and encouragement to individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Empathy and active listening skills to establish rapport and create a safe space for clients to share their experiences.
- Knowledge of community resources and support networks for individuals with mental health needs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and build trusting relationships.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Selfawareness and emotional resilience to manage personal triggers and maintain a positive attitude.
- Familiarity with evidencebased practices and selfcare strategies for mental wellness.
- Understanding of ethical guidelines and boundaries in peer support relationships.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills to maintain accurate client records.
