Kennel Attendants accountabilities/job description are as follows:
Our ideal candidate is a hard working individual who enjoys interacting with people and animals, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Keeping the animals fed and restocking supplies, removing litter and leftover food, collecting, and getting rid of fecal matter, disinfecting the area, and replacing the cleared materials. Other tasks may also include transporting the animals to a different area; and carrying out specialized bathing, grooming, and exercise routines. Assist in the administration of other basic procedures and giving medications. Other duties may include observing animals and checking for signs of disease, illness, or discontent; and handling problems in cases where clients or team members are dissatisfied with the service; and maintaining equipment used and making sure they are in good working condition.
Client/Foster Education:
This is an important part of your accountabilities, since we are a shelter and handle a lot of animals for adoption it is vital that you are continually educating yourself and our clients, fosters, potential adopters and volunteers. Communication is key in all aspects of your accountabilities.
Must be able to learn basic veterinary medical concepts, including but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks
Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to owners and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian
Will be asked to communicate with the public daily in a professional manner. **This position is for our Cat Cafe and requires interaction with both animals and potential adopters**
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Perform daily cleaning of kennels, transport carriers, and public areas, following proper disease control protocol to ensure a sterile environment
2.Keep medical team informed of any health issues, or concerns
3.Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed
4.Execute the adoption process of animals in the facility
5.Prepare intake paperwork for new arriving animals to the facility
6.Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry throughout the facility
7.Assist in the unloading/loading of incoming/outgoing animals when necessary
8.Ability to forecast and anticipate needs of the animals
9.Ability to handle animals of various sizes and activity levels safely, compassionately and effectively
10.Sweep, mop and scrub facility floors
11.Prepare and distribute food related enrichment items daily
12.Assist in engaging with volunteers ensuring daily task are completed as assigned
13.Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
1.Must be able to work standing, sitting or bending for 4-6 hours
2. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the day and up to 100 lbs with help
3.Walking and/or standing for long periods. Frequently bending and kneeling
4. Must be able to see fine details in a variety of situations
5. Must have good hearing including ability to distinguish changes in pitch
6. Must have reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas
7.Exposure to unpleasant odors and high volume noises
8.Exposure to possible bites, scratches and animal waste
Qualifications:
1. High school graduate or GED equivalent.
2. Current or previous kennel experience or pet care in a rescue or kennel environment
3. Minimum one years’ experience working in a veterinary hospital or clinic, animal shelter experience preferred.
4. Excellent communications, organizational and technical skills.
5. Shows maturity, good judgment and performs duties in a professional manner.
6. Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in stressful situations.
7. Must be in good physical and mental health with no allergic condition which might be aggravated by exposure to animals.
8. Valid Nevada Driver’s License and a good driving history.
9. Proficiency with use of computers (word/excel, etc.) and Shelter database software (Shelterluv or similar), and most office equipment.
10. Demonstrated capability to be a self-starter, facilitator, and organizer.
11. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
