Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Part-Time Counselor to join our Student Life team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community.
As a Part-Time Counselor, you will facilitate and support the curricular and co-curricular development and retention of Eckerd students through providing clinical mental health services, crisis intervention and psychoeducational programs. Consultation and support services may be provided to members of the Eckerd community with particular focus on student life and student development.
The role requires the incumbent to possess knowledge and skill in a wide variety of intervention modalities, including individual and group psychotherapy, consultation and outreach. You must have the ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and maturity in handling sensitive information, student interaction, and community relations as well as the ability to foster student development.
This is a 10-month position working from August 1 through May 31 each year, working 29 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high quality psychological/mental health services to students including prevention, consultation and treatment for the full range of psychological and psychiatric problems, from developmental difficulties to life-threatening and psychotic disorders.
Develop workshops and programs that meet the needs of current campus concerns, including guest lecturing for Eckerd faculty or the local community.
Assist in the maintenance of effective systems for monitoring and assessing service quality and outcome.
Provide supportive and consultative services to professional staff, faculty, students, and families regarding the mental health of the individual students and the factors affecting the adjustment and mental health of the student population.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling or related field; two years of experience working with young adults in a college counseling center or mental health agency.
Mental Health Counselor licensing in Florida required.
