St. Joseph’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychotherapist to join our Behavioral Science Unit. This role plays a crucial part in our multidisciplinary team, providing psychotherapeutic and psycho-educational group sessions, individual counseling, and family therapy to support patient recovery. Your Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday

  • Day shift

  • Salaried position


What You’ll Do:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic programs, including psycho-educational and stress management groups.

  • Conduct individual and family counseling sessions based on treatment plans.

  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of individualized, comprehensive treatment plans within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Facilitate psychotherapy groups and other therapeutic activities.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical and departmental records.

  • Support patients in responding constructively to the treatment program with the goal of discharge to home and community.

  • Participate in staff meetings, departmental conferences, and ongoing professional development.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and industry standards, including safety and quality assurance.

  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient programs and community agencies.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: M.S. or M.A. in Mental Health Counseling, Psychotherapy, Marriage and Family Counseling, or Rehabilitation Counseling. Candidates must meet NYS Department of Education requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor. LCSW or LMSW is strongly preferred.

  • Experience: One to two years of experience in a psychiatric setting is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, strong observational abilities, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Personal Qualities: Patience, understanding, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.


Physical Demands:

  • Heavy lifting, bending, reaching, and standing throughout work hours.

  • Potential involvement in physical restraint activities for psychiatric inpatients.
