Overview
As a Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and Music Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the emotional, spiritual, and practical needs of hospice patients and their families. In this unique dual-role, you will manage the volunteer program while also delivering personalized music therapy services as part of the interdisciplinary team. This position is also responsible for providing education to team members on hospice and other items within their scope of practice.
Volunteer Coordinator Responsibilities
- Recruitment and Training: Recruit, screen, onboard, and train volunteers, ensuring they understand the hospice mission and are prepared to offer compassionate support.
- Matching and Assigning: Match volunteers with appropriate assignments based on their skills, interests, and the needs of our patients and families.
- Coordination and Supervision: Coordinate volunteer activities and provide ongoing supervision and support.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, hours, and prepare regular reports to assess program effectiveness.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the local community to promote the hospice volunteer program and recruit new volunteers.
- Relationship Development: Establish and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations within the community necessary to support the outreach activities of the volunteer program.
- Event Planning: Oversee Arc Hospice & Palliative Care’s Arc of Life program designed to help patients create lasting memories by planning and participating in meaningful events.
Music Therapist Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: Assess the emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual needs of patients and families to determine appropriate music therapy interventions.
- Therapeutic Delivery: Provide evidence-based music therapy—such as guided listening, singing, songwriting, legacy creation, and instrumental engagement—to offer comfort, enhance quality of life, and support emotional well-being.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Participate in care planning with the hospice team to integrate music therapy into each patient's individualized plan of care.
- Bereavement & Group Support: Contribute to bereavement support as appropriate, including the facilitation of grief groups or individualized support for families.
- Education & Advocacy: Educate staff, volunteers, and the community about the benefits and applications of music therapy in hospice care.
- Documentation: Maintain clinical documentation in accordance with hospice standards and compliance requirements.
- Program Enrichment: Support strategic goals of the organization through innovation in therapeutic offerings and integration with volunteer or community-based programming.
Qualifications:
To thrive in this role, we're looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited university.
- Board-certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
- Ability to effectively manage and coordinate volunteer schedules and activities with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to engage and interact with volunteers, patients, families, and the community.
- Experience in maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and documenting patient care.
- Understanding and empathy toward individuals and families facing challenging times.
- Ability to plan and execute special events for the community and individual patients.
- Ability to travel locally to assisted living facilities, nursing facilities, and the home settings.
