About Job

Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School is seeking an experienced mental health professional to join our team of school counselors in the student support services department for the upcoming school year. School counselors work closely with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to understand and meet the needs of all of our learners. This position will focus on our early elementary students in Pre-K through First Grade and requires a commitment of about 24 to 32 hours per week.

A primary responsibility is providing direct services to students with a range of social-emotional and behavioral needs, including individual and small group counseling and classroom based social-emotional learning. Counselors offer consultation to teachers and parents around student social-emotional and behavioral needs and supports, facilitate implementation of self-regulation tools and behavior support plans, and take a lead in responding to student mental health crises that may arise.

Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills are essential in this position. The school counselor will document and communicate sensitive information with families about student needs, interventions, and progress on a regular basis, as well as collaborate with other professionals, including private therapists, psychiatrists, and other providers.

School counselors are 10 month employees. Salary range is commensurate with education, licensure, and level of experience.

A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or counseling is required. Licensure within the mental health field is also required and a clinical license is strongly preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate experience.
