Job Summary
This is a Grant Funded Position: The incumbent of this position serves as an Access Counselor with responsibility for ensuring access and linkage and continuity of care. Incumbent will have the ability to address and resolve immediate crisis situations. Provides linkage to core service agencies and other providers, assisting providers with creative problem solving to suggest alternative approaches to care. Promotes efficient and effective customer care by promptly and respectfully responding fully to consumer needs by triaging, assessing and coordinating care as needed, including interacting and following up with 911 services, providers and other area services. The incumbent must have knowledge to perform crisis intervention, suicide assessment and intervention, as well as supportive, empathetic listening skills. They must have experience providing coordination in an Access and Referral environment and be able to handle incoming and outgoing calls as appropriate in accordance with procedures.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal grade level progression for the position to be filled.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Licensures, Certifications and other Requirements: N/A
Work Experience: Performs community education and outreach and updates referrals, provider, and eligibility information, involving handling of multiple databases and software applications.
Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Work may occasionally involve community or consumer interaction and risk of infection or threat.
Area of Consideration: Open to the Public
Duration of Appointment: Term Appointment, Not-To-Exceed 13 Months
Tour of Duty: Rotating Shifts (Some Weekends and Holidays)
Number of Vacancies: Three (3)

Collective Bargaining Unit
This position IS in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFGE/AFSCME and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through an automatic payroll deduction.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of a non-expired DC Driver’s License or Non-driver’s license and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
Position Designation: This position is deemed as “Protection Sensitive” pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying protection sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:

- Pre-employment drug and alcohol test;
