EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Masters Degree
Experience in leading groups and facilitating educational groups
Experience in alcohol and drug prevention and recovery from abuse
Training and experience working with victims and perpetrators
Training and experience in Substance Abuse Prevention and recovery strategies and programs

CERTIFICATION :
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification
Valid Texas Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification as a School Counselor

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Take a holistic approach to mental health. Identify, counsel, support, and refer students who need assistance with issues interfering with optimal performance. Utilize data to develop targeted interventions to support the 'Fit Mind Fit Self Fit Future'
framework to reduce barriers to mental health and behavioral supports and services. Improve academic outcomes by supporting safe and healthy students. Provide a confidential, professional response to students and their families.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive program of wrap around mental health supports:
a. Suicide prevention and education
b. Alcohol, tobacco and other drug use prevention and education
c. Healthy relationships
d. Relationship abuse prevention and education
e. Bully prevention
f. Conflict resolution/mediation
2. Counsels students individually and in groups to improve their mental health, social/emotional and educational development.
3. Helps students define goals, plan action, and gain insight.
4. Provides psycho-educational trainings for students, parents, and faculty.
5. Identifies and shares evidence-based practices at various tiers of support.
6. Coordinates resources for students' development and improvement, as appropriate, including working with:
a. Appropriate community agencies
ADEPT (Alcohol, Drug Education, Prevention and Training) program
b. District Social Worker & Campus Counselors
7. Facilitates implementation of evidence-based preventions and interventions for students who are experiencing barriers due to discipline and behavior.
8. Assists in planning of district wide and/or cluster community events.
9. Consults with teachers and campus administrators regarding guidance and post discipline recovery.
10. Provides guidance and support on best practices for dropout prevention and recovery efforts to campus contacts.
11. Assists in planning and evaluation of the guidance program with the campus academic counselors.
12. Pursues relevant professional development as related to counseling students and improving opportunities for student development.
13. Uses high level interpersonal skills with students and those working with students to build trust and relationships.
14. Maintains confidentiality of information.
15. Actively participates in district crisis team through training and campus crisis support.
16. Occasionally drives personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
17. Reports to work on time every day.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Knowledge of counseling theories
  • Demonstrated multicultural, ethical, and professional competencies in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to provide presentations to students, faculty and community members
  • Use critical thinking skills to identify and evaluate possible solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and discretion in sensitive, confidential issues and projects
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
