Lafayette Jefferson High School This is a 1.0 FTE certified position as a School Counselor at Jefferson High School for the 2025-2026 school year. The candidate should be licensed in school counseling covering the grades 9-12. Candiates that hold a non-counseling Bachelor's degree or higher and are willing to enroll in a School Counseling program will also be considered. Jefferson High School is located in central Lafayette about one hour north of downtown Indianapolis and two hours south of downtown Chicago along I-65 in west central Indiana. The Greater Lafayette area is home to Purdue University and along with a strong economy the university makes Lafayette one of the finest places to live in the Midwest. CONTRACT LENGTH: 201 days
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in delivering information to students and parents about curriculum and scheduling.
2. Assists in administering all standardized tests and surveys and interprets the results to students and parents.
3. Assists in planning and coordinating activities such as career days, college visitations, and student and parent orientation sessions.
4. Keeps the administration informed as to needs of students and recommends changes in the curriculum, programs, and activities as needed.
5. Provides counseling to students that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
6. Takes an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
7. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
8. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing educational and occupational plans in terms of such evaluation.
9. Arranges for tutors, summer school work, and homebound tutoring.
10. Counsels to promote educational success for all students and refers to appropriate support options when needed.
11. Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning.
12. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
13. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or director of guidance may assign.
14. Assists in special education and/or 504 plan case conferences, annual case reviews, IEP meetings.
15. Assists in implementing special education IEP and Section 504 plans.
