Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

The Cheyenne VA Healthcare System, Mental Health Service Line, is currently recruiting for one (1) Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor for psychotherapy services on the BHIP-CCM team based in Cheyenne, WY. This is a multi-disciplinary position and selections can be made from the following, Staff Psychologist, Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.

The MHSL staff at the CVAHCS is comprised of interdisciplinary providers and program staff serving approximately 5,000 Veterans annually through programs including: Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery, Health Care for Homeless Veterans, Grant and Per Diem, Housing and Urban Development VA Supportive Housing, Veterans Justice Outreach, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Intimate Partner Violence, Military Sexual Trauma, Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment, Suicide Prevention, Geriatrics, Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership, Substance Abuse Treatment, Post Combat Trauma, Primary Care Mental Health Integration, and Peer Support. CVAHCS is a Level 3 facility with medical and mental health services that are delivered to approximately 28,000 Veterans within the Medical Centers main campus located in Cheyenne WY, the Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic, and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), as well as through its Mobile Telehealth services in Wheatland, Rawlins, Torrington, Sterling, and Laramie. Travel: The position requires the employee maintain a current and valid state drivers license as the position is required to travel occasionally, requiring operation of a government vehicle

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • The LPMHC provides case assessment and psychiatric diagnosis, treatment planning, and assumes responsibility for coordinating discharge planning.
  • Provides a range of interventions and treatment modalities which may include individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy.
  • Maintains appropriate records including Initial Psychiatric Intakes and History, treatment plans, progress notes of each psychotherapy session, and termination notes.
  • Formulates and implements a treatment plan in collaboration with the Veteran and families/caregivers when appropriate; participates in interdisciplinary review of ongoing treatment of assigned Veterans on an annual and as-needed basis.
  • Provides crisis intervention when indicated including timely assessment of at-risk Veterans in crisis to identify immediate needs, evaluate risk, and initiate safety plan as appropriate.
  • Provides clinical case management and care coordination to facilitate appropriate delivery of health care services, incorporating complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veterans.
  • Provides supportive counseling in the development and utilization of community resources.
  • Is a direct care provider, maintains a patient panel.
  • Provides clinical services through the use of Tele-Mental Health/Tele-Home technology.
  • Serves on Interdisciplinary Treatment Team(s).
  • Assesses the mental status and safety of Veterans at each visit.
  • The incumbent will attend Mental Health staff meetings and any other mandatory meetings regularly.
  • Assists in identifying and carrying out continuous process review projects to improve the safety and quality of care provided to Veterans.
  • Is required to maintain active BLS certification.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Education - Master's or doctoral degree in one of the following:

  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; OR
  • A related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include but are not limited to Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling.
