Job Title: AY Submersible Pump Assembler Lead
Location: AY Pump Warehouse – 1809 Adel Street, Janesville, WI
Division: Baker Water Systems – AY McDonald Pumps
Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor or Manufacturing Lead
Position Summary:
The Lead AY Submersible Pump Assembler is responsible for overseeing and participating in the assembly of submersible pump components to precise specifications at Baker Manufacturing’s new AY Pump Warehouse. This leadership role ensures efficient, high-quality production for AY McDonald’s aftermarket and OEM product lines by guiding team members, monitoring workflow, and fostering continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical skills, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to coach and support team performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily activities of the submersible pump assembly team, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Assemble submersible pump components including motors, shafts, impellers, seals, and other mechanical parts using hand and power tools.
Provide training and mentorship to assembly personnel; serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting and process questions.
Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to ensure accurate and consistent assembly.
Conduct in-process quality checks and perform functional tests on assembled pumps.
Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with warehouse staff, and ensure proper staging of components and materials.
Maintain accurate records of assembly work, component usage, and inspection results.
Collaborate with supervisors and other departments to streamline processes and resolve production issues.
Lead by example in following safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, lean manufacturing, and standard work updates.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or production manager.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hand tools; previous pump or motor assembly experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role within a manufacturing or assembly environment is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to guide and support a team.
Basic computer/data entry skills (e.g., work orders, inventory systems).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Problem-solving mindset with a focus on teamwork, accountability, and results.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a newly established warehouse and light manufacturing facility.
Fast-paced environment involving both leadership and hands-on assembly work.
Occasional overtime or schedule adjustments may be required to meet production demands.
Moderate to Loud Environment
6am-3:30pm OT may be required
Compensation details: 22-23 Hourly Wage
