Overview
The Animal Care Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of animal care facilities, ensuring the health and well-being of all animals under our care. This position requires a compassionate individual with strong leadership skills and extensive knowledge of animal husbandry practices. The Animal Care Manager will coordinate staff activities, manage animal care protocols, and maintain compliance with veterinary standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train staff in proper animal handling techniques, medication administration, and aseptic practices.
  • Develop and implement care protocols for various species, including dogs, equines, and other animals as needed.
  • Monitor the health and behavior of animals, identifying any signs of illness or distress and coordinating veterinary care as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments administered, and any behavioral observations.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety within the facility by adhering to established sanitation protocols.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians to provide critical care when needed and assist in laboratory procedures as required.
  • Foster a positive environment for both staff and animals, promoting teamwork and effective communication.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in animal care management or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal husbandry practices.
  • Experience with dog handling, kennel operations, equine care, and veterinary critical care is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with medication administration techniques and laboratory procedures is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with staff, veterinarians, and stakeholders effectively.
  • A compassionate approach towards animal welfare combined with strong leadership capabilities.
