LOCATION : REMOTE from any US based location. Evening Shift: 11:30am-8:00pmCT/12:30pm-9:00pmET

The stated pay range is based on a national-average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location.This position is bonus eligible.

CNO’s worksite division, Optavise, is seeking aBilingual Spanish/English speaking,Benefits Counselor to provide personalized, comprehensive education to employees on their employer’s benefits offerings, ensuring clarity and support during all enrollment events. This role assists new hires navigating Open Enrollment and guides employees experiencing qualifying life events (QLEs in making well-informed decisions.

As a Benefits Counselor , your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting one-on-one sessions to educate employees about their benefits options during various enrollment events such as new hire onboarding, open enrollment periods, and qualifying life events (e.g., marriage, childbirth, loss of coverage).
  • Facilitating benefits selection by helping employees understand their choices and the implications for themselves and their families.
  • Maintaining up-to-date expertise in a wide range of employer-sponsored benefits, including PPO, RBP, EPO plans, high-deductible and consumer-driven health plans, HSA, HRA, and FSA, short- and long-term disability insurance, and various life and accident insurance plans.
  • Providing expert-level guidance for qualified life event benefits-related inquiries, including ensuring that benefit changes meet compliance and employer policy guidelines.
  • Ensuring accurate completion and submission of benefit elections through benefits administration systems, carrier platforms, and proprietary portals.
  • Assisting internal teams with training on benefits administration platforms during client implementations.
  • Accurately document interactions, follow-ups, and resolutions in the system.
  • Participate in mandatory internal training to stay informed on projects, industry updates, and system enhancements.
  • Mentoring and training junior team members, sharing advanced knowledge and best practices, including the development of training materials.
  • Conducting audits of the client's benefits administration system by performing ad-hoc testing of the entire online enrollment experience and the benefits content provided on the website. Reporting any defects or inconsistencies identified to ensure they are resolved before the enrollment period begins.

The Benefits Counselor position is well-suited for you if you have :

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to simplify complex benefits information in Spanish and English.
  • Advanced customer service and interpersonal skills, consistently exceeding member expectations.
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret employee benefit policies and plan documents.
  • Comprehensive understanding of employee benefits programs, including enrollment processes.
  • Expertise in benefit plan documents, HIPAA, and PHI/PII regulations for compliance and data security.
  • Proficiency in benefits administration platforms (PlanSource, Empyrean, ADP) and internal systems.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and testing insurance/benefits with high-level scenarios.
  • The ability to operate independently and collaboratively in a remote environment, maintaining productivity.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Certifications/Licenses: Active resident state health and life insurance license. Ability to obtain non-resident state licenses and be appointed by insurance carriers.
  • Related Work Experience:2+ years of experience in customer service or external facing role requiring strong written and verbal communication.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English

  • Field of study: Healthcare Administration, Social Work, related field, or requisite experience
  • Related Work Experience: previous experience with employee benefits for either provider or payor perspective preferred; 4+ years of experience in a call center environment or technical support role, 1+ year of experience with Salesforce, 1+ years of experience with benefits administration software
