About Job

Overview:
The Lead Program Counselor provides clinical supervision and educational training for interns and program counselors who are not licensed for independent practice to ensure organizational compliance with state requirements regarding supervision of counseling services. The lead will also assist patients in meeting their bio-psycho-social needs by means of support services and therapeutic techniques. These will include but will not be limited to assessment, consultation, teaching, support services for patients and families, crisis intervention, group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, interdisciplinary treatment planning, and discharge planning.


Responsibilities:
Patient Care
  • Provides consult liaison and referral services to FMC Departments.

  • Documents interventions, patient response to interventions and any changes in patient’s condition/status in documentation system.

  • Coordinate the appropriate level of care based on assessment process.

  • Demonstrates accuracy of documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient responses as evidenced by the appropriate documentation systems.

  • Review clinical information for patients referred from outside facilities to determine level of care and facilitate admission to FMC BHS when indicated.

  • Consults with other medical professionals as clinically indicated.

  • Participates in and effectively contributes to patient care conferences, interdisciplinary treatment planning and case staffings.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, health care team members and community providers regarding patient status, treatments, and patient progress.

  • Coordinates activities to provide the community with resources and referrals, including assisting potential patients in gaining access to federal and state supported systems.

  • Provides clinical precertification information to patients, managed care companies, insurance companies and other third party reviewers to establish the number of certified days.

  • Functions as a liaison between physicians and families, coordinates with transportation services and other mental health facilities to organize the admission procedures.

  • Effectively participates with the multidisciplinary team in planning and providing care. Supports team decisions and articulates the appropriate rationale for those decisions.

  • Participates positively in orientation of new staff, student interns, and others

Clinical Management
  • Meets with assigned non-licensed program counselors on a scheduled basis.

  • Meets with assigned full-time employees at a minimum of 30 minutes weekly.

  • Meets with assigned part-time employees at a minimum of 30 minutes bi-weekly.

  • Develops a supervision contract and documents supervisory sessions.

  • Responsible for providing feedback to supervisees and clinical manager for all issues relating to employee performance and program compliance

Education
  • Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidenced based practice and research

  • Focuses on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students.

  • Work collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers, and participate in ongoing in-services and educational seminars.

  • Provides orientation training to new program counselors and student interns for professional development

  • Maintains timely documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.

  • Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Stays current and complies with company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

  • Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.

  • Participates in the mentoring and education of colleagues and students.

  • Facilitates educational workshops and various trainings on a regular basis for current BH employees for ongoing skills development

Documentation
  • Maintains and completes all documentation and patient records in EMR

Compliance/Safety
  • If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.

  • Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner

Qualifications:
Education

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or clinically related behavioral health field – Required
Certification & Licensures

State of Arizona Behavioral Health license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT or licensed psychologist)- Required
CPI- Required within 3 months of hire
BLS (American Heart Association) certification- Required within 30 days of hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire.
Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire.
Experience

4 years of experience in a behavioral health setting, 2 years of those years inpatient psychiatric setting - Required

Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
