Lead Behavior Technician
Location: Within 15–20 miles of the OC area
Job Type: Full-Time 9:00am-5:00pm
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Range: $21.50 – $24.25 per hour
Language: Spanish preferred, but not required
Position Overview
Are you an experienced Behavior Technician ready to take the next step in your ABA career? Join Active Steps as a Lead Behavior Technician, where you'll have the opportunity to lead by example, mentor new BTs, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In this leadership role, you will collaborate closely with clinical supervisors to ensure that treatment plans are implemented with fidelity, and you’ll help build a positive and effective clinical culture from the ground up.
Your Role and Impact
As a Lead BT, you will:
- Deliver 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy in client homes, schools, and other settings
- Support the training and development of new Behavior Technicians
- Collaborate with BCBAs and Clinical Supervisors to update treatment plans and goals
- Track client data accurately and communicate progress to the clinical team
- Maintain high ethical and professional standards
- Serve as a model of best practices for junior staff and families
Schedule Expectations
Lead Behavior Technicians are required to maintain general availability from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. This ensures consistent coverage for a combination of:
- Client sessions
- Training and shadow hosting
- Administrative responsibilities (e.g., documentation review, onboarding prep, communication)
While individual daily schedules may vary based on client needs and training assignments, the standard breakdown is as follows:
AM-Focused Responsibilities
- Admin time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and after 2:00 PM
- Training block (if assigned): 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Available for overflow sessions: After 2:30 PM
PM-Focused Responsibilities
- Client sessions: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Training block (if assigned): 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Admin time: Before 10:00 AM or 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Note: Lead BTs are expected to use any open time during their 9–5 availability to complete lead-level tasks and support team operations. Flexibility may be required to adjust to scheduling demands or onboarding needs.

Qualifications Checklist – To Be Considered, You Must:
- Live within 15–20 miles of the hiring service area
- Candidates without a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 1-2 years of Behavior Technician (BT) experience, while those with a bachelor's degree require at least 1 year of BT experience; we are flexible depending on the combination of education and experience.
- Hold at least a High School Diploma or GED
- Have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance under your name
- Have reliable transportation
- Be available for full-time work, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Be seeking pay within company’s posted pay range
- Have a clean criminal record and no history of convictions
Credentialing Requirements
You must currently hold one of the following accredited Behavior Technician Credentials:
- Behavior Technician-Level One (BTL1) – required (company covers training cost) AND one of the following (or in progress):
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
- Applied Behavior Analyst Technician (ABAT)
- Board Certified Autism Technician (BCAT)
Preferred Qualifications
- In-person ABA experience
- Relevant background in one or more of the following areas:
- Childcare or Early Childhood Education
- Paraprofessional or Teacher’s Aide
- Mental Health or Counseling Support
- Healthcare or Human Services
- Respite Care, Nannying, Babysitting, or Coaching
- Volunteering with individuals with special needs
