Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in providing guidance and assistance to individuals facing challenges related to mental health, addiction, and behavioral issues. The Peer Support Specialist will work closely with clients to foster a supportive environment, promote recovery, and facilitate access to necessary resources.
Qualified candidates will be required to gain Peer Support Specialist Certification, with training expenses paid by Diakonia.
Duties
- Provide one-on-one support to clients in various settings, including crisis intervention and management.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behavioral changes.
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized support plans.
- Mentor clients through their recovery journey, offering encouragement and practical advice.
- Collaborate with social workers, mental health counselors, and other professionals to coordinate care.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress in compliance with organizational policies.
- Facilitate group sessions focused on addiction counseling and behavioral health education.
- Stay informed about community resources and systems that can assist clients in their recovery.
Requirements
- Experience or education in addiction counseling, social work, or behavioral health is preferred.
- Strong skills in crisis intervention and crisis management are essential.
- Familiarity with mental health/substance abuse counseling practices is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all client interactions.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying client needs and situations.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
