About Job

Barre City Elementary and Middle School is seeking a Guidance Counselor. This position requires PK - 12 licensure, with an assignment at the elementary level.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide needed support to students on assigned caseload related to school success across academic, personal and social realms.
  • Provide supportive counseling and resources to students and/or caregivers when social, emotional, or academic issues are impacting school success.
  • Serves as a resource person for all stakeholders in the areas of social, emotional and academic adjustment and progress.
  • Meets with assigned caseload students on a regular basis.
  • Participates as a team member in the development and monitoring of student progress through participation in IEP, EST and CSP plans. Coordinates, develops and monitors student 504 plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention support when needed and collaborates with local agencies and mental health counselors.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing with students, parents and school staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of technology and software applications appropriate to job responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement small group, individual and classroom instruction around a variety of topics to promote positive mental health, safety and personal growth.
  • Acts as a systems change agent in collaboration with the school leadership team to ensure a safe, supportive and respectful school climate that promotes the social/emotional and academic development for all students.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Current licensure in School Counseling with VT Endorsement code 3-64
  • Abides by the American School Counselor Association’s Ethical Standards for School Counselors
  • Knowledgeable about the developmental characteristics of adolescents
  • Preferred candidate will have college and career counseling experience in a high school setting
