Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in addiction counseling and a commitment to helping individuals overcome substance use disorders. This role involves providing support, guidance, and therapeutic interventions to clients in various settings, including hospitals and community care environments. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work closely with patients to assess their needs, develop treatment plans, and facilitate recovery.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate the severity of substance use disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic evaluations and patient needs.
- Provide addiction counseling and therapeutic interventions to clients and their families.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on recovery strategies and coping mechanisms.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Engage in ongoing research related to substance abuse trends and effective treatment methodologies.
- Offer support for child family counseling when necessary, addressing the impact of substance abuse on families.
- Participate in community outreach programs to promote awareness of substance abuse issues.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in addiction counseling or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with ICD-9 coding for substance abuse diagnoses is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of home community care practices and patient care standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
- Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations effectively.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and record keeping.
- A compassionate approach towards individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
- Relevant certifications or licensure in substance abuse counseling is desirable.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) status.
- 1-3 years’ experience in the field of substance abuse counseling.
Education:
- Possession of a degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Human Services and/or Maryland State certification or licensure as: CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LGPC, or LMSW.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
