Day to day as a Psychiatric Technician - Full Time

As a Psychiatric Technician in our Crisis Stabilization program, you will play a key role in providing direct care and supervision for individuals living with serious mental health challenges and co-occurring substance use disorders. Your duties will include monitoring and documenting client progress in an intensive, short-term residential setting, while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver effective treatment and case coordination. You will lead both individual and group development training focused on independent living skills and leisure activities, supporting clients' personal growth and overall wellness.

In addition, you will assist with essential household services that are crucial for client care and the maintenance of the facility. Your role is essential in ensuring the health, safety, and civil rights of all clients and their families, and your contributions will directly impact their emotional well-being and recovery. What we're looking for in a Psychiatric Technician - Full Time

To excel as a Psychiatric Technician in Crisis Stabilization at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates should possess a robust skill set tailored for direct care roles. A minimum of one year of experience working with adults living with serious mental illness is essential, with a preference for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). Candidates must have a solid understanding of serious mental health disorders, alongside the principles and practices of care tailored to these individuals. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for building rapport with clients and their families.
