Job Description:
As a master’s level licensed provider, Behavioral Health Consultants (BHC) work closely with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, MD’s, and Psychiatrist as members of the treatment team in the Behavioral Crisis Center environment. This team member performs routine consultations, clinical intakes, crisis services and therapeutic assessments and interventions. BHCs provide evidence-based interventions to promote positive coping behaviors, address immediate needs related to psychological health, safety, and screen for behavioral health and substance use disorders. They facilitate integrated patient care by working collaboratively with the medical team, providing the team with education about identification and treatment of behavioral health and substance use concerns. They support referrals to specialty mental health as needed and promoting positive working relationships with external partners and the system.
Essential Job Functions:
Conducts clinical intakes, same-day consultations, targeted assessments and brief therapeutic interventions.
Provides follow-up bridge and regular therapy interventions as needed to meet appropriate and timely referral availability guidelines and assists clients in appropriately managing crisis states, coping strategies and behavioral health concerns.
Routinely engages clients to screen and evaluate progress and modify crisis services to meet the individual’s treatment goals related to mental health and substance use disorders.
Meets regularly with the provider and nursing team in an informal “curbside” manner as part of the daily routine of the unit. Provides clear and concise feedback to treatment team, formulates and articulates action plan and establishes aftercare follow-up
Supports Crisis Center team in identifying and behaviorally intervening with clients who could benefit from behavioral health, emotional, crisis or substance use disorder needs within any unit of the Behavioral Crisis Center.
Focuses on managing active or new clients and at times may maintain a small caseload of ongoing bridge/therapy patients.
Develops specific and goal-directed interventions with the use of routine screening and monitoring forms.
Provides educational materials and community resources to helps clients maintain effective, healthy and positive coping strategies tailored to each individual’s clients specific issue.
Promotes collaborative working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Maintains professional affiliations and enhance professional growth and development through seminars, conferences, and community involvement.
Maintains records for each patient in accordance with the system’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to chart completion within the required time frame.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all clients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to follow direction and accept supervision.
Able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and coordinate services for multiple clients with a variety of ages and diagnoses
Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, basic utilization management, and quality improvement concepts and principles.
Experience and Education Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social work or counseling or PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology Current unrestricted LCSW, LPC, PhD, or PsyD license.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience (preferred).
Experience working in a medical setting (preferred).
Supervisory Requirements:
None.
Employment Requirements:
Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
Physical Requirements:
ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
