About Job

Sterling Medical is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our mental health team with the U.S. Coast Guard in New London, CT. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatry and a passion for providing high-quality mental health care. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with various mental health disorders in both hospital and clinic settings. The Psychiatrist will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans that promote patient well-being.

Location:Coast Guard in New London, CT

Clinic Hours:0700-1530 weekdays, closed on weekends and Federal holidays. There is no evening or weekend call.

Job Type: Full time contract ;40 hours per week

Work Location: In person

Qualifications

  • Diploma from an accredited school of medicine.
  • A current unrestricted active license to practice medicine from one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U. S. Virgin Islands.
  • A current board certification in Psychiatry.
  • A current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration (Federal and state as applicable).
  • A “no unfavorable information on file” rating with the National Practitioners Data Bank (NPDB).
  • A current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI), or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
  • A minimum of two (2) years recent clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine mental health needs and diagnoses.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices.
  • Provide therapy and counseling, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as appropriate.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care for patients.
  • Engage in crisis management when necessary, providing immediate support to patients in distress.
  • Stay current with medical terminology and advancements in psychiatric practices.
