Description

This position is responsible for programmatic development and delivery of trauma education
curriculum through the partnership between the SIU Survivor Recovery Center (SRC) and the SIU
Office of Correctional Medicine (OCM). This position will collaborate with SRC and OCM teams as
well as staff at facilities within the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) to fulfill programmatic
requirements and ensure alignment with organizational goals. This position may also provide
education and mentoring to various learners within the SIU School of Medicine and the Department of
Family & Community Medicine (FCM).

Examples of Duties

ADMINISTRATION (15%)
A. Establish and maintain positive working relationship with the Office of Correctional
Medicine as well as designated facilities within the Illinois Department of Corrections
(IDOC).
B. Act as primary liaison between SRC, OCM, and IDOC facility staff, traveling to various
Illinois facilities for meetings, presentations, and other consultations as needed.
C. Collect surveys, participant feedback, and other data in support of program evaluation
and improvement.

II. TEACHING (25%)
A. Lead the development and implementation of Trauma Education Series (TES) Talks
curriculum for IDOC staff based on information obtained through focus groups.
B. Participate in development and implementation of TES Talks curriculum for
incarcerated individuals at IDOC facilities.
C. Provide behavioral health education to rotating medical students and other medical
learners as requested.
D. Serve as Attending/Mentor for SRC interns and learners.

III. RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVTY (5%)
A. Assist SRC Evaluator, FCM statistician, and OCM staff to collect and analyze
program data.
B. Coordinate with outside research partners as appropriate to assess and improve the
program.

IV. SERVICE (55%)
A. Serve as resource for IDOC staff who are seeking additional trauma informed care
information or services.
B. Provide supportive counseling interventions to IDOC staff upon request.
C. Participate in professional coaching, training, wellness, and other professional
development activities as requested.
D. Facilitate focus groups with staff at designated facilities within the IDOC

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Master's degree in social or behavioral sciences or related health specialty area from an
accredited college or university.
B. Two years of progressively more responsible full-time experience in the practice of
social services/agencies/or medical/clinical setting maintaining acceptable standards of
social work practice.
C. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
D. Ability to establish good working relationships with other professionals and community
agencies.
E. Ability to work independently.
F. Must have valid Illinois driver's license, reliable vehicle and auto insurance
G. Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of
Illinois.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
A. Minimum of two years prior work experience providing psychotherapy to individuals
with histories of trauma.
B. Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders.
C. Experience working in a correctional setting.
D. Experience facilitating focus groups, providing training, and/or teaching adults.
E. Experience in program development and implementation
