Job Summary
The Recreation Therapist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals through therapeutic recreation activities. This position involves assessing clients' needs and developing personalized treatment plans that utilize recreational activities to improve physical, emotional, and social well-being. The Recreation Therapist will work with diverse populations, including children and individuals with disabilities, to foster engagement and promote healing through various therapeutic modalities.

Duties

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate clients' interests, abilities, and needs related to recreational activities.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that incorporate therapeutic recreation strategies.
  • Facilitate group and individual therapy sessions using a variety of activities such as art therapy, dance therapy, swimming, and other recreational pursuits.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to meet evolving needs.
  • Provide education and support to clients and their families regarding the benefits of recreational therapy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, progress notes, and treatment outcomes.

Skills

  • Proficiency in addiction counseling techniques to support clients with substance use issues.
  • Experience working with children in therapeutic settings.
  • Strong background in mental health counseling and behavioral health practices.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to therapeutic interventions.
  • Familiarity with special education principles for working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to implement art therapy techniques effectively.
  • Competence in facilitating dance therapy sessions as a means of expression and healing.
  • Skills in swimming instruction or aquatic therapy methods.
