Job Description
Coordinates and performs a variety of clinical services. Facilitates the matriculation of Midshipmen to licensed and commissioned officers in a four-year federal undergraduate military-style academy. Location is at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.
Job Responsibility
- Coordinates and performs a variety of counseling / psychotherapy services including intake, assessment, evaluation, substance abuse intake, crisis intervention and treatment planning.
- Provides individual and group counseling and education to clients and significant others; provides treatment planning services.
- Coordinates referrals for occupational and legal assistance.
- Confers with academic staff in order to certify visits for patients’ treatment.
- Consults with Department of Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and medical staff in differential diagnoses and evaluations, as well as formulating, revising and implementing plans.
- Formulates and provides prevention education to the community; administers psycho-educational and prevention programs.
- Prepares and sends highly confidential required medical records and reports to the officials of the Navy and Coast Guard.
- Provides training to the Midshipmen Human Relations Officers.
- Assists the leadership with formulation of policy and procedure for the school.

Job Qualification
- Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Current License to practice as a Mental Health Counselor in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
- Clinical experience with adolescent/ young adult (17-24 years old) patient population. Experience with military service environment / globally deployed organization, preferred.
