About Job

Access Institute for Psychological Services is a community-based mental health care nonprofit based in San Francisco that delivers accessible and affordable mental health care to those with the greatest need and the least access. For over 20 years, the organization has made high-quality psychological services available to individuals and families who lack adequate insurance and the financial means to afford care.

Every year over 13,500 hours of services are provided to more than 700 people of all ages. Access Institute provides comprehensive mental health care (individual and couple psychotherapy, psychological assessment, medication evaluation and follow-up care) at its Hayes Valley clinic and at community locations, including five public elementary schools and an adult day health center in Bayview Hunter’s Point.

Access Institute provides rigorous clinical training, through a Doctoral Psychology Internship (APA accredited), a Postgraduate Fellowship, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Internship. Position Overview:
Access Institute is seeking a skilled and community-focused Clinical Psychologist to join our team. This position is based at our Hayes Valley Clinic, where we provide high-quality mental health care to low-income and marginalized patients of all ages.

The Staff Psychologist will join our clinical team and will provide in-person psychotherapy services to a diverse, community population. The Staff Psychologist will play an active role in Access Institute’s training programs by providing supervision and teaching of interns and fellows. This position includes managing the assessment intake process and contributing to outreach efforts to strengthen partnerships with other clinics and institutions. This role also involves participating in weekly clinical and administrative meetings to support training and coordinated, team-based patient care.

Approximately 55% of weekly hours are devoted to direct patient services, 15% to assessment intake and outreach, 10% teaching and supervision and 20% to meetings and administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate is a licensed clinical psychologist with strong experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy and a demonstrated commitment to community-based mental health care. We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, strategic, and collaborative—with excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, and a desire to build meaningful relationships within the organization and the wider community.


Required qualifications:
  • Commitment to Access Institute’s mission and to the cause of affordable, accessible mental health care
  • Licensed in California (Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Experience providing psychotherapy services to a diverse low-income population
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of diversity, especially around race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, culture, language, and gender

  • Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.
