Summary
The selected Social Worker will be Supervisor for Social Work staff assigned to the Acute Care setting at Lake Nona, the community hospital, and ED-Hybrid staff in the Orlando VA Healthcare System. The Acute Care Supervisor assists with the planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives; as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the subordinate Social Work staff.
Duties
Some of duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the various Acute Care units.
- Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised.
- Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions, as necessary.
- Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
- Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State, local, and private agencies, and universities.
- Uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements.
- Supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit.
- Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
- Responsible for assuring that Quality Assurance monitors related to discharges and placements are completed and reported in accordance with Medical Center Policy.
- Utilize Veteran Video Connect (VVC) technology, or other approved virtual care platforms, as one service delivery method available to provide Veteran care.
- Responsible to the Chief of Social Work or designee, but practices independently, exercising initiative and independent judgment in day-to-day activities.
- Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviation from traditional methods or trends and patterns to develop new methods and proposed new policies.
- Has established guidelines and performance expectations for staff, and clearly communicates them through the formal employee performance management system.
- Ability and expertise in supervision and evaluation of the clinical and technical skills of social workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
- Ability to complete comprehensive assessments, treatment plans and care coordination.
- Knowledge of eligibility criteria for nursing home placements, home health services and community resources.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
- Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the Master's Degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to . All others must meet the requirements of their state of licensure to be able to provide supervision for licensure.) - Education and Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
- Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.

Physical Requirements: The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in lifting light files, bending, standing, reaching, operating office equipment such as telephone, copier, fax machine, scanner, etc. The physical demands of the work requires use of fingers; moderate walking and standing; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in on eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing aid permitted; clear speech; emotional stability; moderate duty.
