Opportunity Campus Social Worker

Organization: Black & Pink National

Reports to: Program Director

Status: Salaried, Year-Round, 40 hours/week

Compensation: $65,000

The Social Worker at Opportunity Campus will provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based support to LGBTQIA2S+ youth and young adults aged 19–30 who are system-impacted, and or living with HIV/AIDS. This role involves direct support, case management, crisis intervention, and collaboration with community partners to ensure holistic care for residents and members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Individual and Group Support: Provide one-on-one counseling and facilitate support groups addressing issues such as trauma, identity, family dynamics, and life skills.
  • Case Management: Develop and implement individualized service plans, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to immediate needs related to mental health crises, housing instability, and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Resource Coordination: Connect residents to community resources, including mental health services, legal assistance, and basic needs support.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for residents within the community and with service providers to ensure access to necessary services.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions, assessments, and service plans in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members, community organizations, and service providers to create a supportive network for residents

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Nebraska preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, preferably with LGBTQIA2S+ youth and young adults or system-impacted populations.
  • Commitment to prison abolition and social justice. An understanding of and commitment to prison abolition and ending the criminalization of LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA)
  • A working knowledge of the community impact of the criminal legal system and the criminalization of LGBTQ+ people and PLWHA
  • Ability to set and achieve short, medium, and long-term goals with residents
  • Knowledge: Understanding of trauma-informed care, LGBTQIA2S+ issues, and the impacts of incarceration and foster care systems.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, crisis intervention, case management, and cultural competency.
  • Experience working within community-based settings

Work Environment

Work takes place in a residential housing setting and may involve continuous sitting. Team communications predominantly take place virtually (via Zoom, Slack, email, phone, text, etc.), and candidates must be comfortable working in a virtual team environment.
