Job Summary:
The Surgical Care Coordinator is responsible for counseling surgical patients prior to their pre-operative appointment. This role ensures the smooth financial and clinical process with proactive patient communication pre-operatively. The Coordinator will work closely with patients, surgeons, and clinical teams to ensure all aspects of surgical scheduling, insurance, and payment processes are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Coordination:
    • Schedule preoperative, postoperative, co-management, and surgery appointments.
    • Reschedule surgical-related appointments as needed to accommodate both patient and surgeon availability.
  • Insurance and Eligibility:
    • Verify insurance coverage for all surgical procedures, including co-management services.
    • Prepare detailed estimates of fees based on insurance verification and procedure costs.
    • Follow up on surgical authorizations, ensuring approvals are obtained before the scheduled surgery.
  • Payment Collection:
    • Collect payment from patients after pre-operative appointments
    • Ensure full surgical payments are collected prior to surgery.
  • Documentation and Consents:
    • Collect all required signature consents for surgical procedures, ensuring they are completed and filed appropriately.
    • Maintain accurate and complete patient records regarding surgical consent and other documentation.
  • Patient Education:
    • Educate patients about available cataract packages and lens options.
    • Provide patients with education materials prior to pre-operative appointment.

  • Customer Service & Patient Experience:
    • Provide exceptional customer service, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment.
    • Engage with patients in a vibrant and positive manner, ensuring the patients feel valued and understood throughout their surgical care journey.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate's or bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred).
  • Experience in medical office administration, surgery scheduling, or patient care coordination (required).
  • Knowledge of insurance verification and authorization processes (required).
  • Proficiency in healthcare billing and charge posting systems (preferred).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams and patients.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with potential exposure to clinical settings.
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday
