RBT Trainer Job Description

Job Title: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Trainer

Department: Clinical/Behavioral Health
Reports To: Clinical Director or BCBA Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Position Summary:

The RBT Trainer is responsible for training, mentoring, and supporting newly hired and existing Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) in accordance with BACB standards and organizational protocols. This role ensures that RBTs are properly equipped to implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) with fidelity and in alignment with client goals. The RBT Trainer models best practices in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), monitors skill acquisition, and fosters professional growth in line with quality care expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct initial and ongoing training for new and current RBTs on ABA principles, ethical guidelines, data collection methods, and behavior intervention strategies.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and real-time feedback in clinic, home, or community-based settings.
  • Collaborate with BCBAs to ensure treatment integrity and competency of RBTs across programs.
  • Lead competency assessments in accordance with BACB requirements for RBT certification and renewals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of training hours, competency records, and performance reviews.
  • Develop and update training materials, manuals, and skill checklists to reflect evidence-based practices.
  • Observe sessions and provide feedback to improve fidelity and client outcomes.
  • Support professional development by identifying growth opportunities and facilitating continuing education.
  • Assist in onboarding new staff and orienting them to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards consistent with BACB guidelines.
Qualifications:

Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in good standing with the BACB.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct ABA experience, with a strong record of clinical excellence.
  • Experience in staff training, supervision, or mentorship preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of data collection systems and behavior analytic procedures.
  • High degree of professionalism, reliability, and organizational skill.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments.
Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related field.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish or other) preferred but not required.
Work Environment:

May include in-office, in-home, and/or school-based environments.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and engage in active play or physical support as needed.
  • Occasional travel between client locations may be required.
