JOB SUMMARY: The Mental Health Therapist provides trauma-informed, client-centered care to a diverse population within an OMH-licensed clinic. This role involves delivering individual and group therapy, conducting assessments, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and maintaining comprehensive documentation in compliance with clinic and regulatory standards. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MINIMUM: Masters in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling
  • Direct experience working in a mental health article 31 preferred
  • MINIMUM: Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with a history of substance use, D.V issues, Criminal Justice, mental illness, chronic homelessness, and/or HIV/AIDS. Education, training or experience in substance abuse and its treatment.
  • Experience working in an article 31 clinic (preferred)

LICENSURE: LMSW, LMHC, LCAT, LCSW

CERTIFICATION: SIFI or CASAC is a plus

DUTIES AND RESPONISBILITES:

Clinical Assessment and Support:

  • Provide weekly or bi-weekly trauma-informed individual therapy for a diverse caseload, including individuals experiencing mental health disorders, substance use, homelessness, and other psychosocial challenges.
  • Conduct comprehensive intakes, assessments, and screening tools to evaluate client needs.
  • Develop and update client-centered treatment plans every 90 days.
  • Administer evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Conduct mental health assessments and participate in the development of integrated treatment plans.
  • Provide group therapy sessions as appropriate based on program needs.

Care Collaboration and Advocacy:

  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning and service coordination.
  • Initiate and support coordination of care with internal and external providers.
  • Support clients in medication adherence, providing psychoeducation related to psychotropic medications as needed.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including session and contact notes, in accordance with OMH and agency policies.
  • Utilize collaborative and concurrent documentation practices during client sessions.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with regulatory standards and is completed within required timelines.
  • Manage a caseload of a minimum of 50 participants, providing consistent support, documentation, and coordination of services to meet program goals.

Additional Duties

  • Stay informed of current best practices in mental health treatment.
  • Attend trainings, supervision, and professional development activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet department operational goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES:

  • MINIMUM: 1–2 years of experience in a clinical mental health setting preferred.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with OMH documentation standards and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a client-centered approach.
  • Crisis Management skills for client in crisis to porvide intervention and conflict resolution, with the ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and sensitively to diverse
  • Ability to support a client with a trauma-informed approach, fostering a safe and empowering environment.
  • Strong understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs of individuals living with dual diagnosis including those from marginalized communities.
