About the Role:

The Facilities Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that our childcare and office environments are safe, clean, and conducive to learning and playing. This position involves maintaining the physical aspects of the 19 facilities, including classrooms, restrooms, office and common areas, to support the overall mission of the childcare organization. The Facilities Assistant will collaborate with various departments and supervisors to address maintenance needs and assist in the setup of events and activities. By effectively managing daily operations and responding to facility-related inquiries, the Facilities Assistant contributes to a positive experience for students, staff, and families. Ultimately, this role is essential in fostering an environment that promotes education and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in facilities management or related area.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs and ensure cleanliness.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of classrooms and event spaces for various activities.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related requests and inquiries from staff and students.
  • Repair/replace leaking faucets, unplug blockages.
  • Construct shelves and other furniture, perform door repair, replace ceiling tiles.
  • Clean furnace and air conditioning screens, oil motors and moving parts.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized maintenance and repair services.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring they are stocked and in good condition.
  • Exhibit professional conduct at all times

Skills:

The required skills for the Facilities Assistant include strong attention to detail and the ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions, as well as navigate tight crawl spaces, and climb ladders in or around attics, garages and rooftops, etc. Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary to interact with staff and students, ensuring that their needs are met promptly. The Facilities Assistant should be self-motivated to complete assigned tasks within given time constraints as time management skills are crucial for prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day. Preferred skills, such as knowledge of safety regulations and basic repair techniques, enhance the Facilities Assistant's ability to address issues proactively. Overall, these skills contribute to a well-maintained and welcoming childcare environment.
