Job Summary

Omnis Health Life Wellness Center is a dedicated provider of mental health and wellness services, committed to fostering recovery, resilience, and self-determination in the individuals we serve. We are currently seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) to join our team and provide person-centered, strength-based support to individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.

The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a mentor and advocate, using their lived experience with recovery to inspire hope, facilitate wellness, and guide individuals in navigating challenges related to mental health and/or substance use disorders. By sharing personal experiences and practical strategies for managing daily life, the Peer Support Specialist plays a critical role in empowering individuals to take charge of their recovery and build meaningful, independent lives.

This role involves direct interaction with clients, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and active participation in community outreach efforts. If you are passionate about helping others overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, we encourage you to apply!

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Peer Support & Advocacy

  • Build and maintain trusting, supportive relationships with clients by sharing lived experiences of mental health recovery and/or substance use treatment.
  • Offer emotional support, encouragement, and hope to individuals in various stages of recovery.
  • Assist clients in identifying their strengths, setting personal goals, and developing action plans to support their wellness journey.
  • Provide individual and group peer support sessions, helping clients develop coping skills and strategies for daily life.
  • Encourage self-advocacy by educating clients about their rights, available resources, and strategies for navigating healthcare and social service systems.

Case Navigation & Resource Connection

  • Help individuals connect with community resources, including housing assistance, employment services, mental health programs, and addiction recovery support.
  • Support clients in accessing medical care, therapy, education, and legal services as needed.
  • Accompany clients to appointments, court hearings, job interviews, or community meetings to provide guidance and emotional support.
  • Assist in crisis intervention by identifying risk factors and connecting clients with appropriate emergency services or mental health professionals.

Program Development & Collaboration

  • Facilitate peer-led workshops, support groups, and educational seminars on topics such as self-care, relapse prevention, financial literacy, and stress management.
  • Work closely with clinicians, case managers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and comprehensive support.
  • Help create and implement personalized recovery plans tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
  • Provide input in program development by offering feedback on policies, support strategies, and community outreach efforts.

Administrative & Compliance Duties

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of client interactions, progress, and referrals.
  • Follow ethical guidelines and best practices in peer support, maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Participate in training sessions, team meetings, and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills

Certifications & Experience

  • Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in the state of Maryland.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery, with at least one year of sustained recovery.
  • Experience facilitating peer-led support groups or mentoring individuals in recovery is preferred.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of mental health recovery models, addiction treatment principles, and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of local resources, support networks, and social services available to individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, empathetically, and nonjudgmentally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to establish healthy boundaries while providing compassionate, peer-led support.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional training, coursework, or certification in psychology, social work, counseling, or human services is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening (as required by state regulations).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends, based on client needs.
  • Reliable transportation to support clients in attending appointments and community events.
