Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor for the School of Engineering- Academic Affairs.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Promotes and achieves student success by providing comprehensive academic support and retention services to students.
  • Makes timely referrals to appropriate offices.
  • Provides reliable and timely academic advising to undergraduates at the School of Engineering.
  • Maintains student records.
  • Supports scholastic standing reviews.
  • Interacts professionally and compassionately with all undergraduate students, as well as their parents/guardians.
  • Coordinates advising related programming and activities.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with the SoE departments and other campus partners on issues pertaining to academic policies and student advising.
  • Participates in university-wide and school-wide duties and functions such as commencement and graduation convocation, new student on boarding, degree audits, student engagement, recruitment and other special programs or events as assigned.
  • Supports a collaborative, team focused, and positive work environment that is student-centered and passionate about student success.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Two years of experience in college-level academic advising, student services or a closely related field.


Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience assessing learning outcomes, student programming, and retention and outreach efforts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records; and experience working with domestic and international students with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
  • Excellent communication skills, and experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the engineering curricula and the academic degree requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Rutgers system-wide student information and service delivery systems including IMS, Salesforce, SSC, Degree Navigator, Canvas.
  • Experience in college-level academic advising, student services in a large university setting.
