HJF is seeking a Graduate Assistant to be responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff. Meets regularly with thesis advisor to discuss research and related assignments, which may include attending meetings, conducting literature searches, designing experiments and conducting independent research, generating and analyzing data, operating laboratory equipment, drafting, editing and reviewing manuscripts and other reports, and providing teaching assistance.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data. Makes detailed observations about experiments. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, manuscripts.
  • Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
  • Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
  • Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures. Completes all required training on time. Provides leadership in the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials.
  • Provides quality control, trouble shooting and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow general instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary for this position is $44,740.80. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
