Job Summary:
To support individuals (“clients”) who are involved in the criminal justice system obtain needed services
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with clients, beginning immediately after involvement in the justice system through potentially post-criminal justice involvement
Assist clients with “big picture” life events
- Assisting clients with finding and securing housing/housing funding/“emergency necessities”
- Network with local charities, other providers and (when appropriate) CCARP for short-term housing needs, clothing, food, toiletries, etc.
- Network with recovery houses, Safe Harbor/CARES, etc.
- Assist clients in obtaining/recovering licenses/ vital documents and services
- Driver’s license/PA ID card, passport, Social Security card/birth certificate, Medical Assistance/insurance, WIC/Food Stamps, etc.
- Social Security/SSI and disability (when appropriate)
- Help obtain required documentation to complete applications for programs and services (MH, D&A, etc.)
- Assist clients to find and maintain employment
- Resumé preparation, practice job interviews, network with local employers/job fairs/temp agencies
- Assist clients with obtaining education services/GED
- Ensure participants keep up with same, locate providers for education resources (i.e. tutoring services)
- Assist clients in developing and keeping updated “weekly calendars”
- “On ____, I have to meet with _________ at ____ o’clock in _____ building/location for _______ purpose”
- Assist clients with obtaining and maintaining necessary services/life skills
- I.E. legal aid (MidPenn/CCBA/other local bar association where appropriate), VITA/tax prep clinics, CYS and DRO
- Network with Maranatha, parenting skills instructors, etc.
- Attend court sessions with applicants/participants
- Liaise with attorneys/other criminal justice personnel when necessary
- Where appropriate, interface with probation, probation managers, drug and alcohol, drug testing regarding applicants/participants
- Assisting clients with finding and securing housing/housing funding/“emergency necessities”
- Ensure regular contact with clients
- Earlier detection/intervention on potential MH issues/drug relapse triggers
- Is housing stable, any family upheaval, are they taking medications, attending self-help groups, are there any emergency needs? (i.e. lost job, car broke down, or electricity was shut off), any domestic violence concerns?
- Refer clients to any counselling or therapy services as necessary
- Network with providers/develop working relationship with same
- Family services, MH/D&A, etc.
- Earlier detection/intervention on potential MH issues/drug relapse triggers
- Assist clients in the development of positive, achievable life goals
- Help to develop and adjust strategies to achieve those goals
- Examples include breaking “revolving prison door” cycle, or regaining custody of children, etc.
- Help to develop and adjust strategies to achieve those goals
- Maintain contact with clients post-criminal justice involvement
- Check in on their continued success, reaffirm availability of resources and support
- Aid in the reduction/prevention of recidivism
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences from an accredited college or university.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in social work or a related field.
