The Charter School for Applied Technologies (CSAT) opened its doors in 2001 as a 700-student school serving grades K-6. Today, CSAT is a busy campus consisting of three distinct buildings (Elementary, Middle and High Schools), that host approximately 2,300 students from 19 different school districts throughout WNY.

Job Summary
The School Social Worker will address the psychological, personal, and social well-being of students that affect school performance, behavior, and socialization. Social Worker will provide information and counseling and help students, parents, and school staff work together to solve problems by communicating and providing referrals to other resources. Will work one-on-one, classroom or school-wide sessions to address issues such as attendance, illegal drug or alcohol dangers, and adjustment to the social setting of the school. The Social Worker will assist teachers and administration in dealing with behavioral or attitude issues by communicating with students to find causes of their distress.

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000
New York State Education Department Fingerprinting is required for all positions. CSAT offers a very competitive salary, benefits and is a member of the New York State Retirement System.

Essential Job Duties
- Interact with students to assess the areas in which they might need counseling or assistance to better function in school
- Provide the necessary professional skills to assist students and community in problem-solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner
- Communicate with parents, teachers, administrators to provide a full view of the issues facing an individual student, group, or entire district
- Collect written documentation and maintain case files and reports to track student problems and progress and to recognize patterns in behavior
- When issues or behavior problems have been identified, assist in remediation by providing counseling, treatment plans or workshops
- Work collaboratively with other relevant school staff to address minor disciplinary consequences and provide support
- If appropriate or necessary provide information for outside support services or agencies to help students deal with economic, emotional, or physical challenges
- Work closely with particular groups of students, such as those with disabilities or at-risk groups
- Bring an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process
- Assist families in alleviating adverse conditions to promote resiliency and academic success for at-risk students and assist them in utilizing school and community resources to help maximize students’ educational abilities
- Participate in the evaluation of special education placements and participate in the development of behavioral modification plans, Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), and Supportive Intervention Plans (SIP)
- Generate ad-hoc reports as needed and perform other clerical and other tasks as necessary
- Provide anger management, self-esteem, impulse control, substance abuse prevention, crisis intervention services, and social skills training sessions/programs
- Participate in program staff meetings to contribute to program improvement
- Demonstrate appropriate behavior and modeling, support, and a friendly-caring attitude, and general patience
- Effectively communicate both verbally and written with students, parents, and professionals
- Attend internal and external meetings and professional development as needed
- Master’s degree in Social Work
- NYS Certification or Licensure in School Social Worker required
- 2-5 years’ experience working with school-aged children
- Knowledge of general behavior techniques appropriate for teens/children
- Computer proficient, MS Office, database software
- Bilingual language and writing skills a plus
