We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to support individuals transitioning from Texas state psychiatric hospitals into supervised community-based housing. The LCDC will provide substance use assessments, counseling, and recovery planning to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. This role emphasizes holistic recovery by fostering independence and connection to community resources.
Responsibilities
This position requires travel between the hospital, residences, and community agencies. Travel reimbursement is available based on state allotment guidelines.
Required Skills
Five (5) years of experience working with consumers diagnosed with substance abuse, mental health, or dual diagnosis.

The LCDC will provide substance use assessments, counseling, and recovery planning to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. This role emphasizes holistic recovery by fostering independence and connection to community resources.
Responsibilities
- Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and substance use screenings tailored for individuals exiting state hospital settings.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that include measurable recovery goals.
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions focused on substance use recovery, relapse prevention, and coping strategies.
- Coordinate with program staff, recovery advisors, and housing providers to support ongoing sobriety and stability.
- Provide education on harm reduction, MAT (medication-assisted treatment), and other evidence-based interventions.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure integrated care for individuals with dual diagnoses.
- Document clinical services, progress notes, and discharge plans in compliance with program standards.
- Assist in linking participants to ongoing outpatient services, community recovery programs, and other wraparound supports.
- Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary care planning.
- Conduct home visits and provide on-site support in supervised living environments.
- Education: Associate’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or related field (required).
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years working with individuals experiencing substance use and/or co-occurring disorders. Experience with populations transitioning from inpatient psychiatric care preferred.
- License: Active and valid LCDC license issued in the State of Texas.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented systems, and housing stabilization models.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
