FLSA Status: Exempt Site/Location: E. C. Glass High School Reports to: Building Administrator Date: 05/28/2025 POSITION SUMMARY
The High School Counseling Department Director provides leadership, coordination, and supervision of the school counseling program to ensure that it supports the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. This position requires collaboration with counselors, administrators, faculty, parents, and community partners to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership & Program Management
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive school counseling
Program. - Supervise, evaluate, and provide professional development opportunities to the
counseling department staff. - Establish goals for the counseling department in alignment with school and district
strategic plans and based on identified school needs. - Lead departmental meetings and coordinate various efforts across the school.
- Keep informed on current counseling/educational innovations and practices and assist
staff in related implementation activities.
- Oversee the delivery of counseling services to meet the academic, career, college
readiness, and personal/social needs of students. - Ensure equitable access to counseling services for all students.
- Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies in collaboration with
staff and families. - Support crisis intervention and conflict resolution efforts.
- Stay informed and connected to the life of the school.
- Serve as the liaison between the counseling department and school administration,
teachers, families, other schools, and community resources. - Advocate for student needs and represent the counseling department in school-wide
Planning. - Work collaboratively with the school administrative team on the student scheduling
Process. - Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to foster partnerships that support
student success.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding school
Counseling. - Manage student records, confidentiality, and data reporting in accordance with FERPA
and district policies. - Analyze student data to identify trends and guide program planning and resource
allocation.
- Oversee college and career advising services, including transcript reviews, college
applications, scholarships, and financial aid guidance. - Plan and execute events such as college fairs, career fairs, and informational workshops.
- Collaborate with post-secondary institutions and employers to enhance student
Opportunities. - Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university.
- Valid School Counselor Certification.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a school counselor, with leadership experience preferred.
