Job Description
My client is seeking multiple Care Managers – Behavioral Health to support California-based contracts. These roles will begin as a cohort for training and may be hybrid or fully remote based on performance.
The Care Manager will monitor inpatient and/or outpatient mental health and substance abuse services to ensure medical necessity and effectiveness. Responsibilities include telephone triage, crisis intervention, concurrent reviews, discharge planning, and quality clinical reviews. The role also involves educating members and providers, collaborating with Physician Advisors, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Conduct utilization reviews for behavioral health services
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency authorizations
- Develop and implement discharge plans
- Educate members and providers on benefits and resources
- Collaborate with providers and Physician Advisors
- Participate in quality improvement and network development
- Advocate for patient care and ensure treatment needs are met
Required Qualifications
- Must hold one of the following active California licenses:
- LCSW, LMFT, LMSW, LPCC (Note: LPC is not a valid license in CA), RN, or CEAP
- Some experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or substance abuse settings
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
- Familiarity with DSM-V and utilization management procedures
- Ability to analyze utilization issues and implement care solutions
Education Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Social Work (depending on licensure)
Preferred Skills
- Tech-savvy with basic computer literacy
- Experience in crisis management
- Background in psychiatric care or utilization management
- Familiarity with California mental health systems and community resources
Interview Process
- 1–2 rounds of video interviews
- May include screen sharing
